ECCT 2009 finals The curtains of the Engineering Consultants Cricket tournament has now been drawn down with the finals been played on the 13th of March. In a match that witnessed last year’s finalists AEB and Hyder lock horns for the championship this year too, the game went on to be a nail biting game with AEB proving their mettle once again to win ECCT 2009, thereby defending the coveted Champions tag they were carrying from last year. Powered with some excellent batting from the AEB middle order batsmen, AEB set Hyder a score of 155 in 20 overs.Though Hyder lost a couple of early wickets, some hard hitting from their batsmen kept the game alive and the spectator’s thrilled as on whom would be winning the championship cup. However with the equation set for 33 to win from 2 over’s, the nerves of both the teams as well as the supporters and spectators were tested as some excellent batting strokes saw the final equation read 15 from an over.AEB kept their cool by displaying some excellent fielding there by culminating a hard earned victory by lifting the winning trophy. The tournament whose main motto stands for creating camaraderie between professionals was truly attained and Hyder is proud to have organized ECCT 2009. The focus now will be on the next season of the tournament to be conducted next year. We hope to see you all next year too. For further updates on ECCT, please do log into the website. news logo Run up to the Finals The 2009 finalists of the ECCT are now written in stone following completion of the semi-finals. The final is going to see a rematch of last year’s finalists, AEB and Hyder, and will surely prove to be a grudge match in which Hyder will seek to topple the defending champions, AEB, from their pinnacle. The semi-final between GHD, who went into the match unbeaten in the 2009 group matches, and Hyder proved to be one of the tightest and most action packed matches of the tournament. Some monstrous hitting in the last five overs saw GHD finish their innings in an explosive fashion, posting an extremely healthy score of almost 150. With Hyder needing to score 13 runs an over from their final 5 overs, and with their top three batsman back in the pavilion, it appeared as if GHD were heading to the final. But then a fantastic display of stroke play saw Hyder power through to take the upset victory with 5 balls to spare, making Hyder the first team to qualify for the 2009 final. AEB played to form against QDC in their semi-final, decimating the QDC top order batting. QDC’s lower order fought back well after an amazing initial bowling effort by AEB, but QDC’s score wasn’t enough to really test AEB’s potent and experienced batting line up who finished the game off with the loss of a single wicket. AEB subsequently qualified for the second spot in the 2009 final, and enter this match as strong favourites following their unbeaten run in four matches of the 2009 tournament, including a comprehensive first round victory over Hyder, and with no team yet being able to push AEB to the wire. This final is going to be a battle of the titans. Can Hyder beat AEB for the first time in the ECCT, or will AEB begin a legacy by winning a second straight tournament? This a must see match. Make sure you arrive early, as a sell out crowd is predicted.
